Top 5 Metal Detecting Gifts for 2021

Hey Everyone I hope you have had a great week and an even better weeks hunting. 

 So as Luck would have it I Went from Viral infection to Gastro infection last week losing 3.5 kilos over night ill save you the details [puke sound] nothing like a good stomach flu to get you into that size 4 dress, 

 so needless to say my agitation levels with not getting out are about 85% right now but the weather looks good for this weekend and im feeling good so this is it im out this weekend  

 but This week I want to do my Second top 5 gifts for Christmas 2021 and I can hear you all now Jesus Ciaran we haven’t even got through Halloween yet well as I said the last year this is the episode that you leave on in the Car when dropping your partner or friend to Bingo of a Thursday night in the hope for  subliminal messaging of what you need this Christmas so in a way I’m doing you all a favour nice and early for you to reap the benefits when Santa Claus comes knocking in around 60 Days. [Sleigh Bells]

So Like last time the Criteria is Everything but a Metal Detector and Gifts that fall below the 300 dollar price tag essentially this is the stocking filler episode before I get into this years list ill recap last years list first and lets see if any make it to this years top 5.

 So my top 5 gifts for 2020 were

5. Waterproof Socks

4. 6” Coil

3. A Finds Pouch

2. Digging tool

1. Pinpointer.

All Still great options for gifts this year but lets get on with this years.

In position 5 and because most detectors these days require some form of usb charging for either the main detecting unit or the wireless head phones and as most people end up using their mobile phone chargers im suggesting something Called a desktop charger this is essentially a usb charger however with a desktop charger you are delivering an excess of 2 Amps Current for charging your devices, these devices come with 2,4 or 6 ports all delivering high current allowing you to quickly charge all your devices at once an excellent brand for these at a reasonable price is Anker with most of their Desktop chargers coming in at Approx 50 bucks.

In position 4 we have Andres Pencils, Andres What!!! Andreas Pencils If you are Serious about Metal Detecting then you need to have a set of Andres Pencils these are essentially cleaning tools in the form of pencils with the standard kit coming with four pencils two hard point pencils a steel wool brush pencil and a brass scalpel pencil… you just have to look at the reviews on Amazon to see these are the real deal and ideal for cleaning soft metals such as bronze or copper but do not use on Silver or Gold. This stocking filler is not going to break the bank with the standard set costing about 18 bucks. And missus Metal detecting show if your listening ive been a good boy please add it to my Christmas list.

In the Bronze medal position 3 we have Mechanix Gloves I got these my self last Christmas for missus Metal detecting Show and they are the bomb the set I have is called the Original Covert which retails about 20 bucks but feel so much more expensive to wear. These are tactical gloves that are super hardwearing while leaving you with good dexterity in the fingers  and finger tips these have been covered in crap so many times and one wash cycle has returned them to near perfection every time I am very happy with these and have no problem recommending them to the podcast listeners. 

In Position number 2 we have a magnet fishing Magnet now I have covered how to select one of these before and where to not get them from China so check out the Magnet fishing episode but I think you all agree you would love to try it out. Brute Magnets seem to be a good brand and if you are trying to decide which one to get go with the highest pulling force you can but something in around 1000lbs of pull force should do it for you, normally in around 50 bucks but make sure the magnet has an eyelet that can be screwed in and fixed with Loctite and if you want to take the magnet gift to the next level you can add 100 feet of nylon rope to the mix which you can get for about 20 bucks 

 And Finally in the pole position and retaining the title from last year it’s the Pin pointer. The number one tool to speed up finds recovery even though my favourite brand for pin pointer is the Garrett pro pointer there are loads of great brands out there but there are a few things to look out for.

1. Waterproof it has to be water proof remember a detectorist is operating in moist conditions and sometimes underwater so being waterproof is a must.

2. It must be ruggedised if you are lucky enough to observe detectorist digging in a hole you will notice that there is a bit of digging about with the pinpointer and a cheap plastic model will not survive for long in that environment.

3. buy a reputable brand like my favorite Garrett who in my view make the best in the Garrett Carrot but other brands are good such as Minelab, Quest and Notka Makro and all have options to suit your budget.

4. Don’t buy from ebay or Amazon as this has a high potential to be a Chinesium knock off they might look the same but I can guarantee you they will not have the same performance or longevity and lead to ultimate disappointment. 

Go to a metal detector shop that specialises in the hobby that way you have recourse if there is an issue plus you will know your getting a legitimate product.
